Last weekend Sydney experienced the first ever SailGP Regatta and conditions on the Harbour were perfect for the event. Gazillionaire Larry Ellison was the man behind the six nation super foiling cat series and his investment so far looks as though it might have paid off.
Congratulation to the Australian team headed by Tom Slingsby – who after a slow first race managed to win the Australian leg of the inaugural series by snatching the match race from the Japanese team. Interestingly, Team Japan was a development team skippered by Aussie, Nathan Outteridge – so in some ways it was a 1-2 for Australia.
With so much international interest – journalists and photographers from all over the world loaded onto the media boats at RSYS to cover the event but with very little local media interest in the action – I decided to get amongst the crowds on the PhotoNautical photo boat for a different point of view.
Sydneysiders - love a reason to get out on their boats and SailGp was a good one. Scroll through gallery
